Welcome

Welcome to SurfControl E-mail Filter 5.2.1 for SMTP. This release contains the enhancements and bug fixes listed below.

What’s Included in SurfControl E-mail Filter 5.2.1 for SMTP

Improved Spam Protection

The implementation of the Sender Policy Framework (SPF) helps to mitigate spoofed e-mails, phishing, fraud and spam. SPF fights return-path address forgeries and makes it easier to identify spoofs, and distinguishes authentic messages from forgeries before any message data is transmitted.

Improved Security

The implementation of Transport Layer Security (TLS) provides secure communications on the Internet by using an industry-standard cryptography-based protocol. TLS authenticates the server, establishes a private, secure communication channel that prevents eavesdropping, tampering and message forgery between mail server communications.

Default Compliance Rules and Dictionaries

There are now standard supplied rules and dictionaries that you can use to filter e-mails that contain credit card numbers, Social Security numbers and medical records.

Certificate Generation

E-mail Filter supports self-signed and CA (Certificate Authority) signed certificates to enable you to use the TLS and SMTPS security features in the Send and Receive services.

Improved Dictionaries

Russian and Korean dictionary packs have been added, and existing dictionaries have been enhanced.

VIA (Virtual Image Agent) Licensing

VIA licensing now supports 1, 2 and 3 year licensing subscriptions.

Remote Installation

E-mail Filter can now be installed remotely by using a remote desktop or a Windows Terminal Server.

New User Interface for eSMTP commands

A new dialog has been added in the Server Configuration console in the Monitor to enable you to have more granular control in using eSMTP commands.

Multiple LDAP Support

Directory Harvest Detection now supports the ability to select multiple LDAP connections.

E-mail Connection Management

Usability improvements have been made to the ‘Pre-screening’ settings of the System Configuration controls. A new set of options - E-mail Connection Management - enable easy configuration of defenses against connection-based attacks in the SurfControl E-mail Filter. These defenses include Denial of Service, Directory Harvest, Connection Limits, RBL servers, and many more. Also note that you can now add IP addresses to the ‘Blacklist’ configuration.
